My Trip to Cambodia Ignites My Reading

Let’s talk about books!

My Trip to Cambodia Ignites My Reading

Wow!  I was so affected by the 2 week exploratory trip to Cambodia.  To actually walk through “The Killing Fields” and the S21  Genocide Museum and to hear the testimonies and see the place where many were killed.  It is estimated 2 million people died during the time period of 1975-1979 under the Khmer Rouge.   I wept as I saw and heard and felt the horror and oppression of these people.  I was so grateful to meet one of the few survivors of S21, Chum Mey.  I was able to take his hand and look him in the eye and tell him how sorry I was for what he had been through and his family and his country.  We hugged and wept.  I bought his book to treasure his story.

I was also greatly affected by the ministry of Iris Cambodia there with the children and the families of the slums and with the rescue of children and women from the sex trafficking.
Notice the polymer clay hearts on these dear girls…. I gave out 104 hearts to tell the girls and women in the bars and brothels and the slums that they are LOVED.  If you would like to help me prepare hearts to share for my September trip, please contact me or go HERE to my website.
When I returned home I continued to read and research about Cambodia:

and I watched the movie on Netflix

I am also hosting a screen showing of the short film of the 10 year history of A21/Christine Cane’s ministry to end human trafficking.

I want to invite you to come this Wednesday, June 13, 6 pm at the
Parkland House of Prayer in Bonne Terre, MO on the hill at Bonneville Plaza.
I will also share briefly what other ministries are doing as well as share what
I will be doing in September when I return to Cambodia.

Inspired!!

Inspired!!

I have been reading the most inspiring books
the last month or so!!

Here’s the list:
1.  “God’s Generals:  Why They Succeeded & Some Failed” by Robert Liardon.  Wow!  This book covered many men and women of God who were used in powerful ways for salvations with acts of healings and miracles.  Each account covered their backgrounds and a significant encounter with God and empowerment by the Holy Spirit, followed by preaching the gospel, healings and miracles.  The accounts also share their relationship, their shortcoming, and perseverance during persecution.  The testimonies of their lives so inspire me and make me hungry for more of God – to know Him more and to see Him move powerfully in people’s lives!!

2.  “The Jesus’ Fast – The Call to Awaken the Nations”
by Lou Engle & Dean Briggs

Lou Engle birthed “The Call” in 1999, a gathering of tens of thousands for 12 hours of fasting and prayer.  Prayer is laying the foundation for the global harvest to come. TheCall.com

Lou shares his personal journey in hearing God and pursuing God through prayer and fasting.  He shares about the power of corporate prayer & fasting and mentions many revivals.  This book was confirmation of the growing desire in my heart to do a longer fast.  In this book, Lou also mentions a book entitled, “The Atomic Power with God thru Fasting & Prayer” by Franklin Hall.  I was blown away by the testimonies of revival and of course, had to order this book!! LOL!

3.  “The Atomic Power with God thru Fasting & Prayer” by Franklin Hall
This book was written in 1946, the year after the atomic bomb was released on Japan.  As the call to come together to pray and fast across denominational lines occurred in San Diego, fasting & prayer caught like wildfire across America and Canada.  Jamaica erupted with revival, Oral Roberts, T.L. Osborn and Gordon Lindsay experienced massive campaigns of salvation and healing.  The power of adding fasting to prayer is exponential/atomic – especially if done corporately.  Franklin shares about the many revivals that exploded across the world during this time and many personal testimonies from individuals concerning their own experience and encounter with God and healing as a result of fasting and praying.
Franklin also shares some practical things about fasting and the effect on the body physically and spiritually, how to fast, the different stages one goes through in the fast, and how to go off the fast.  This is very helpful and enlightening.

These testimonies and revivals will inspire you to fast and pray!  What could/would happen if we would agree to fast and pray together to see God move in us, in our families, in our churches, in our towns, in our county, in Missouri, and in the United States?!!  God is the same “yesterday, today and forever”.  He wants to move today.  This is one of the most exciting times in history!  Surely we are going to see the greatest revival and harvest!  Do not be discouraged by the evil you see, but overcome evil with good and keep your eyes on Jesus!  He has won the victory, and He is moving in a powerful way across the earth.  He wants us to be activated to do our part by listening to Him, seeking Him , and carrying out His orders, His strategy to bring Light into every part of our world!  Shine!  Shine!  Shine!

Other books by Franklin Hall on fasting:
“Glorified Fasting – The ABC of Fasting”
“The Fasting Prayer”

What are You Reading This Summer?!

What are You Reading This Summer?!

Please share what awesome books you are reading in the comments!

I am WAY overdue in posting!  I have been working on a brand new website. Check it out at www.janecookcreate.com and let me know what you think!

I have been reading some interesting books, especially “Drawing with Children – A Creative Method for Adult Beginners Too” by Mona Brookes.  Some of us still have children at home, some of us are focused on grandchildren now.  But this book is for you as well!  Visual learning can be used both to directly access all subjects and also to support other modes of learning.  There are key thinking skills in visual perception are learned through this method of drawing.  It is fascinating!  Building the skills using this method can improve and make reading, writing and spelling easier to learn!  Interesting, huh?!  In addition to the importance of expression visually.  People are incredibly affected and influenced in the visual realm.  We need to encourage our children and ourselves to express ourselves visually/creatively. I also find “creating” of any kind very relaxing and meditative.

So, what is this method?  She breaks down drawing into 5 simple lines that make up all shapes – the “ABCs” of drawing what you see.  Then she give you simple drawing exercises that teach you how to see them and practice drawing them.  So many people say, “I can’t draw a stick figure!”  That’s because there are 2 types of drawing – the symbolic, like stick figures, and drawing from what you see using these lines.

 EVERYONE CAN DRAW!!!
I always taught that in my Art classes,
but this books expresses it so beautifully and
helps each child or person to succeed in drawing.
FUN!!! Check it out!!
And just think, drawing can help a child succeed in other
subjects they might be struggling with as well.

Have Fun Reading!  Be sure and comment below!

I Ran Across Another “One Word” Book!

I Ran Across Another “One Word” Book!!

I was listening to a Creative Warriors podcast on my way to my weekly class in Cape, and I listened to an interview of Evan Carmichael.  I got so pumped up I was trying to write down some things on a napkin while I was driving!!  LOL!  Then I realized he had a book, “Your One Word – The Powerful Secret to Creating a Business and Life that Matter.”

Now some of you know that part of my word I believe God gave me for 2017 was to Fast from excess/accumulation and that includes Books!  To read what I have and practice what I have already learned! To take Action in 2017!!

Here’s the audio of the message
I gave at Mercy & Truth Fellowship Church,
if you are interested!

ANYWAY, I talked it over with Kevin and bought the book as I had tried to take notes from the podcast and felt it was so pertinent to what I am believing to do in 2017!
YES!!!  The book was soooooo gooooood!  It is about getting focused on what your Core Belief is to help you focus your business, ministry, or life.  It asks questions to try to help you come to what that is.  Such as:  What makes you happy?  What is the connection between all those things?  What traits do you hate?  What is your constant?  Is this who you really are?  Then he goes over limiting beliefs.

Evan uses amazing examples and stories from other people and gives practical application to actually “DO IT”, not just read about it!

I am so excited to see that my ONE WORD for 2017 and this new understanding of My One Word, my core, converges.  I believe that Evan gives an amazing tool to create the business/ministry that I have been dreaming of and working toward.  I believe that you would really enjoy the book as well!

By the way, here is the podcast link too for you to be inspired by!

Discover Your “One Word” for 2017

I so loved the “One Word” Retreat last year at Selah Among the Hills.  We had such a good time hearing from God for our “One Word” for 2016 and time together using mixed-media to express that Word. My Word was “FLY.”

I looked at this Word often throughout the year and it certainly was a year of “Flying” and freedom into the things/dreams God has put on my heart.(ie. Mission trip to Thailand and Singapore with Randy Clark/Global Awakening to the Revive Asia Conference, 3 weeks in Les Cayes, Haiti with Catherine Roux , loving kids in the village feeding program, the hospital, and teaching 25 street boys some new skills to help create sustainable income.  We are also moving forward with the Healing Rooms to have the first Thursday of the month open to the public for prayer and mobile teams to go out to pray for others on the other Thursdays.  I also have continued to use art with the residents at Camelot Nursing Home.)

So what is your One Word for 2017?  I found a book that uses this concept.  It is “One Word that Will Change Your Life.”

” Each year resolutions are rarely kept and goals are often easily forgotten but One Word sticks.  By living a single word that is meant for you, you’ll find renewed purpose and meaning throughout the year and achieve laserlike focus and power for your life.  ONE WORD FOR ONE YEAR.”

The Process is 3 steps:
1.  Prepare Your Heart – Look In.  Disengage from the hectic pace of life.  Unplug.  Stop.  Get Quiet.  Ask “What do I need?” “What’s in my way?”  “What needs to go?”

2.  Discover Your Word – Look Up.  Plug in to God.  Seek God.  Listen.  Ask Him – “What do you want to do in me and through me?”  He will reveal youR word to you.  Get a “God” word.

3.  Live Your Word – Look Out.  Apply your Word to every area of life.  Take Action.  Live your Word with purpose and passion every day in 2017!  This one Word can have spiritual, physical, emotional, relational, mental, and financial impact!

Read the book.  Visit www.GetOneWord.com

And join me on a cyber retreat – “One Word 2017”!! Stay tuned for the details!

2017 is going to be a year of

breakthrough!!

“The Happiness Equation” by Neil Pasricha

So here it is, the end of December 2016!

Are you thinking about 2017 and changes you would like to make etc.?!

Here are 7 Simple Reminders to “Train Yourself” to be Happy

1.  THREE WALKS – The more physically active we are, the greater our general feelings of excitement and enthusiasm. Just 30 minutes of brisk walking 3 x a week!

2.  THE 20 MINUTE REPLAY – Writing for 20 minutes about a positive experience dramatically improves happiness because you relive the experience as you are writing it and relive it every time you read it. Your brain sends you back.  You can do this to improve relationships as well. It can help us to remember the things we like about people and experiences in our lives.

3.  RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS – Scientists have even documented the increase of well-being from doing kindness acts.  (Though we have even greater motivation from God to show His love to people.)

4.  A COMPLETE UNPLUG – “The richest, happiest and most productive lives are characterized by the ability to fully engage in the challenge at hand, but also to disengage periodically and seek renewal.” Jim Loehr & Tony Schwartz (The Power of Full Engagement)  Seek to have a complete downtime after work to recharge for the next day.  Turn off your phone after dinner. Take  “no internet” vacations.  (Check out “Selah Among the Hills” for a peaceful get-away.

5.  HIT FLOW – “…being completely involved in an activity for its own sake.  Everything falls away.  Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one.  Your whole being is involved and you are using your skills to the utmost.”  Creativity really facilitates this activity.  Check out my website Intuitive Painting/ Releasing Creativity Workshops to schedule a fun mixed-media art experience for you and your friends!

6.  2-MINUTE MEDITATION – Besides the Biblical encouragement and the spiritual benefit of meditating on scripture and spending time in God’s Presence, research reveals that brain scans of people before and after meditation show that parts of the brain associated with compassion and self-awareness grew while parts associated with stress shrank!  Meditation can “permanently rewire” your brain to raise levels of happiness.  It sounds like science has once again discovered the truth of God’s Word. Romans 12:1-2 tells us to renew our minds with the Word of God.

7.  5 GRATITUDES – If you can be happy with simple things, then it will be simple to be happy.  Be grateful for 5 things a week.  You will be happier and healthier.  ( I am sure we can find more than 5 things a day! LOL!)
There is a link between how happy you are and how long you live!  Let us let the JOY of the LORD be our strength!!

May you truly have a Happy New Year!
May God guide you into a blessed and prosperous new year!

Blessings!!!

Merry CHRISTmas!

Have you ever watched the kids’ “SuperBook – The First Christmas?”

Product Details

I just happened to see it when I was walking on the treadmill.
I was blown away!!

When Jesus was born it showed the angel speaking to the shepherds and an angel on a high mountain all the way up to the heavens, who began to blow the trumpet announcing that Jesus Christ was born.  The angels streamed out of heaven’s gates and flew to earth to see and to sing!  It was truly GLORIOUS!  To realize that the angels were yearning to see King Jesus born/manifested on the earth and the beautiful JOY they expressed in worship.

I had never really gotten that picture before.  It was magnificent.  I worshiped too as I realized just what it meant and the tremendous release of JOY at the actual event coming to pass that God had planned so many years ago and the prophets had prophesied.  All of Heaven was waiting, as well as earth.

All of creation looks to You, Jesus, and gets their JOY from You as You accomplish all Your purposes and establish YOUR KINGDOM!

May He open our eyes to see beyond this world. The “god of this world” is NO comparison to our God, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

Have an absolutely wonderful Christmas!
Love,
Jane

PS.  Take a look at the dvd with your children or grandchildren.  It was awesome!  🙂

It’s Time for a New Book!

“Heavy Rain”

by Kris Vallotton

(This book is updated and revised from “How Heaven Invades Earth.”  The release of “Heavy Rain” is a timely release for the Church for this moment in time.)

I read this books when it first came out, but I agree with Kris that is more timely and so relevant in light of all that is going on in the Kingdom and the world today. It is very deep and discusses lots of subjects near to my heart beginning with the premise that Jesus expects us to walk in signs and wonders and to work toward and believe in His prayer that God’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven and that the miracles are a”catalyst to cultural transformation fueled by revival.” The idea of presenting to people the 2 kingdoms in contrast between the sick/diseased/possessed/dead and the healed / freed / living!

I found it very interesting and intriguing when Kris discussed his belief and word from the Lord that His Church is moving from denominationalism to apostleships; moving from unity around doctrine to unity as families. I am excited about this and find it so fascinating that I detected this as I began to follow Bill Johnson, Randy Clark and Heidi Baker. They embrace people across denominational lines to join together, to equip, and to move forward into the supernatural, ministry, gifts, and into the ministry and the Harvest of the world. It is not about control but empowerment. We live in such an exciting time!!

“Heavy Rain” also addresses the practical. To become a cultural catalyst, a thermostat instead of a thermometer, “we must gain influence by being valued by the gatekeepers of the environment. We only have a much influence in people’s lives as they place value on us.” I loved hearing some of the
details of how Bethel has pursued to transform Redding from their first meetings with the city manager, giving 10% of the people’s tithe to the city, later they returned to put 2000 students to work doing whatever they could to help Redding to become amazing! A couple of years later the city
commissioned them to build a park, and later when the City Council decided to close the Convention Center, Bethel Church wanted to buy it and run it as a service to the community with the ministry school paying to rent it. Amazing and beautiful to see the Church actually transforming a city! I
want to see that! I want to be and to see the Church influence society in such away that people are drawn to us. We have answers, creative solutions, and wisdom! May we be known for our love rather than for condemnation. May we be irresistible. May we help people to encounter God.

I also was intrigued by the discussion about Iraq in the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 37 days but it is taken years and lives trying to establish a democracy in a region that has been dominated by tyranny for 100s of years. Kris states that “The greatest challenge of replacing a dictatorship with a democracy is teaching people who have lived in virtual slavery how to make healthy choices for themselves and by themselves.. .. who don’t know how to behave in a culture of freedom and so construct other prisons for themselves.” In working with Haiti, I am so wanting to see the Kingdom transform Haiti into the jewel of God that it truly is. It is still all about loving people from the heart and bringing out the best

in them.

I highly recommend this book.  It will challenge you and the Church today to bring Kingdom transformation to the world.  The Church is the catalyst for miraculous change in the world.  Let us steward well what we have responsibility for.  “We are to be people of hope, no matter the circumstances.  Jesus has a victorious plan in place!”  Bill Johnson

 We live in exciting times!!

Blessings as you seek to bring “God’s will on earth as it is in Heaven!”

On Fire – “#7 – Are You Ready?”

Are You Ready?

We have journeyed together through “On Fire.”  This is the last chapter. Be sure to go to my website to submit your comments to be added into the drawing for a FREE COPY of “ON FIRE – The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life”  by John O’Leary.

When John is finally released from the hospital after 5 months, he recalls that it was his father whose words saved his life.

“Before Jack Buck appeared.  Before the therapists stretched me.  Before Nurse Roy walked in.  Before the staff worked to save me.  Before Mom appeared and asked that extraordinary, inspired question.  Before anyone had a chance to do anything, the first person to visit me in the emergency room was Dad.  Dad hadn’t been told the extent of my injuries.  He hadn’t been warned about what he was about to step into….Nothing could have prepared him for it.  His baby boy was going to die.  Fear flooded him.  What could he say?  Why was this happening?  Then Dad saw past the wounds, pushed past the fear, beheld his son, and immediately stepped in with love.  He cut through his fear, the shock, and sadness, came directly to me leaned over, and smiled.  he told me he was proud of me. and told me that he loved me.  I LOVE YOU.  Three simple words that changed my world, and they can change yours.”

“Whether you choose to be seized by love or fear will affect everything that happens in your life.  Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.  Fall into fear, stay in fear, and it will decide everything.”

Fear shut the door on a possible relationship with the “one.”  Even though he had learned to write, drive a car, shoot baskets, throw a baseball, he had no idea if anyone would want him.  But it all changed with the “one.” When she wanted to love him like a sister, he slammed the door shut.  After a year or so he still had feelings for her. He discovered that he had had very selfish motives.  He let go of his fear of not being lovable, and opened the door of his heart to love her even if it wasn’t exactly as he had planned.

The 7th choice to ignite a radically inspired life:

on-fire-7

Love is truly the key.  When John focused on simply loving her and enjoying the moment with no strings attached. No expectations. No hidden agenda.  It was more than enough.  She fell for him.  They married and now have 4 children and live in St. Louis, MO.

The number one thing holding us back from living a radically inspired life is fear.  Fear keeps you from being accountable.  Fear keeps you from embracing your story.  Fear keeps you from going “All in”.  Fear keeps you locked in victim mentality.  Fear keeps you from growing and stretching.  Fear keeps you focused on yourself.  Fear keeps you stuck right where you are.  BUT THERE IS ANOTHER WAY –  Choose LOVE!  It’s a choice and it’s up to us.

I have LOVED sharing this book with you.  I hope you have been inspired to LIVE A RADICALLY INSPIRED LIFE!

Don’t forget to enter the drawing for a FREE COPY OF “ON FIRE”  by entering your comments on my blog on my website.  I will draw a winner on Saturday morning, December 3, 9 AM.

Love,

Jane
